Morro Dois Irmãos

The Morro Dois Irmãos has one of the most incredible visuals of Rio de Janeiro, completing the landscape of the southern zone's borders with a beauty that has guaranteed its Carioca postcard title. The hill can also be enjoyed by a hike that starts in the Vidigal community and ends at the top of the "Dois Irmãos". Its summit with 533 meters of altitude above sea level is higher than Sugar Loaf (395 m) but lower than Corcovado (704 m). The hike is 1.5 km of road that can be realized in 40 minutes. The hike is considered relatively easy and arriving at the top, it is possible to see the entire southern area of Rio, its beaches and trails designed in the neighborhoods. It's breathtaking !

In the Municipal Natural Park of Penhasco Dois Irmãos there is a sculpture signed by Oscar Niemeyer and a memorial awarded by Air France in honor of the victims of flight AF-447.

To start the hike you have to follow to the football field at the Olympic Village of Vidigal.

History

The Municipal Natural Park of Penhasco Dois Irmãos was created in 1992, occupying an area of 39.55 hectares. The surrounding lands, which had been used in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries as pastures and crops, and later turned into sugar cane fields until the nineteenth century, were used to urban occupation in the 1930s who built houses and buildings in the region gave rise to what was known as Alto Leblon. Since 2011, the park is self-sufficient in energy thanks to the installation of solar panels.
