Hiking Pedra Bonita

Morro dois Irmãos

The Morro Dois Irmãos has one of the most incredible visuals of Rio de Janeiro, completing the southern border landscape with a beauty that has guaranteed its Carioca postcard title. The Morro can also be enjoyed up close by a hike that starts in the Vidigal community and ends at the top of the "Dois Irmãos". Its summit with 533 meters of altitude above sea level is higher than Sugar Loaf (395 m) but lower than Corcovado (704 m). The hike is 1.5 km of road that can be done in 40 minutes. The hike is considered relatively easy and arriving at the top, it is possible to see the entire southern area of Rio, its beaches and trails designed in the neighborhoods. It's breathtaking !

In the Municipal Natural Park of Penhasco Dois Irmãos exists a sculpture signed by Oscar Niemeyer and a memorial dedicated by Air France in honor of the victims of flight AF-447.

To start the hike you have to follow the football field at the Olympic Village of Vidigal.

Histoire

The Municipal Natural Park of Penhasco Dois Irmãos was created in 1992, which occupies an area of 39.55 hectares. The surrounding lands, which were used in the 15th and 16th centuries as pastures and crops, then turned into sugarcane fields until the 19th century, were attributed to urban occupation in the 1930s that built the houses. and the buildings of the region gave rise to what was known as Alto Leblon. Since 2011, the park is self-sufficient in energy thanks to the installation of solar panels.
