Hike in Tijuca Forest

Exploring tijuca national park: an accessible and unforgettable hike. Tijuca National Park, the green lung of Rio de Janeiro, offers visitors the opportunity to discover stunning landscapes in the heart of a tropical forest. Far from the city's hustle and bustle, this accessible hike immerses you in a uniquely beautiful natural setting while offering a rich experience of history and nature. As an experienced guide, I pick up my clients at the Jardim Oceânico metro station in Barra da Tijuca, and from there, we drive to the park for an unforgettable exploration.

A route full of discoveries

A route full of discoveries

The route I offer in Tijuca Park is ideal for all fitness levels. This two-hour trail combines nature, culture, and history, offering a complete experience for nature lovers and those eager to explore Rio’s hidden treasures. Here are the main stops of our hike:

Taunay Waterfall: Our first stop is the majestic Taunay Waterfall. This 30-meter-high waterfall is one of the most iconic spots in the park. It is named after the French artist Nicolas-Antoine Taunay, who painted the enchanting landscapes of Rio in the 19th century. Surrounded by lush vegetation, the area is perfect for taking photos while enjoying the soothing sound of the water.

Visitor Center: After the waterfall, we head to the Visitor Center, a fascinating information point where you can learn more about the park's history, its flora and fauna. This educational stop offers insight into the importance of this protected forest, one of the largest urban forests in the world.

Tai Chi Lagoon: We continue to the Tai Chi Lagoon, a peaceful small lake, perfect for a moment of relaxation and meditation. This spot is often used by Tai Chi practitioners for their morning exercises. You can enjoy the serenity of the place and recharge in this peaceful corner of nature.

Suspended Bridge: Further along our path, we reach the Suspended Bridge, a picturesque wooden footbridge crossing a small river. This charming structure offers a lovely view of the surroundings and is a highlight for photography enthusiasts.

Cascadinho Lookout: Our final stop is the Cascadinho Lookout, an exceptional viewpoint overlooking a small waterfall nestled in the forest. This peaceful spot provides a beautiful panorama of the surrounding vegetation and is the perfect place for a contemplative break. The lookout allows for a full appreciation of the wild and tranquil beauty of Tijuca Park.
